Will A Queen Mattress Fit In A Sprinter Van?

Check whether a queen mattress fits a Sprinter, including door access, wheel housings, raised beds, lengthwise versus transverse layouts, and finished width.

A standard U.S. queen mattress measures 60 by 80 inches and can fit inside many Sprinter cargo layouts, but the orientation matters. It generally will not lie flat between the wheel housings of common cargo configurations without being raised above them.

Moving a mattress versus building a bed

Transporting a flexible mattress temporarily is different from installing a rigid 60-by-80-inch sleeping platform. Packaging, mattress thickness, box springs, and the ability to bend the product all affect loading. Follow the mattress manufacturer’s handling instructions.

Measure the actual mattress rather than assuming every product labeled queen has identical dimensions.

Check the narrowest points

Mercedes-Benz lists 53 inches between wheel housings for certain single-rear-wheel cargo configurations, with less space on some other versions. That is narrower than a 60-inch queen. Check the exact cargo measurements.

Door openings, partitions, trim, and cabinets can create additional restrictions. A mattress may fit inside the main body yet be difficult to move through a door or rotate into position.

For a permanent camper bed

A lengthwise bed uses the van’s cargo length for the 80-inch mattress dimension. A transverse bed requires enough finished side-to-side space at mattress height, which many standard interiors do not provide for a full 80-inch sleeping length.

A raised platform can clear wheel housings but reduces headroom above the bed. Insulation and wall panels reduce usable width. Some conversions use body flares or custom mattresses, but those are separate design choices rather than proof that a standard queen fits every van.

Measure before purchasing materials

Create a full-size floor outline and check the height where the mattress will sit. Include bedding, ventilation, access to storage, and room to enter and exit. Test whether the platform can be assembled and later removed.

For a move, secure the mattress so it cannot shift into the driver or doors. Do not carry passengers lying on it while the vehicle is moving. The useful answer is yes for many layouts, provided the actual opening, orientation, and finished dimensions have been checked.
