What PSI Should Sprinter Van Tyres Be?
Find the correct Sprinter tire PSI using the vehicle placard, cold-pressure checks, tire specifications, axle loads, and model-year guidance.
Use the cold tire pressures specified for your individual Sprinter on its tire placard and in the applicable manual. There is no single correct PSI for every Sprinter, and front and rear recommendations can differ.
Where to find the correct pressure
Look for the tire and loading information label in the location identified by the vehicle manual, commonly around a door opening. Match the installed tire size and approved specification to the documentation. A modified camper may also have instructions from its final-stage manufacturer.
The pressure molded on a tire sidewall is not automatically the vehicle’s recommended operating pressure. It describes a tire limit or rating context, which is a different purpose.
Check pressures cold
Use an accurate gauge before driving heats the tires, following the manual’s definition of cold conditions. Check all road tires and the spare where applicable. Do not reduce a hot tire to a cold-pressure target merely because its reading has risen after a drive.
A tire-pressure monitoring system is a warning tool, not a substitute for regular inspection. Look for damage, uneven wear, objects in the tread, and age-related deterioration as well as pressure.
Loaded vans and dual rear wheels
A camper or commercial van can carry substantial weight. Confirm vehicle, axle, wheel, and tire ratings, and weigh a heavily converted van by axle. Do not guess at reduced pressures to improve comfort without an approved basis from the relevant manufacturer or qualified tire specialist.
Dual-wheel installations add requirements for compatibility and load sharing. Use the correct tire specification and follow the prescribed setup rather than applying advice written for a single-rear-wheel van.
Before a long journey
Consult the model-year Sprinter manual. NHTSA also provides tire-safety guidance, including the importance of proper inflation and inspection.
If a placard is missing or the wheels have been changed, resolve the specification with the vehicle or final-stage manufacturer before loading the van for travel. An internet PSI number from another owner’s van is not a safe substitute for the correct information.
